The Lord works in mysterious ways. Although no verse uses these exact words, it is nevertheless true.
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
Romans 11:33 (NIV)
When I started Four-Calendar Café, I had no idea it would be what it is today. When I was first saved, I never thought about creating a blog. I wanted to tell people about Jesus, and that’s what I started doing. For me, the first manifestation of telling people about Jesus was walking around with a friend of mine in Santa Barbara, California, helping people and telling them about Jesus. That ministry grew from two to three of us before it ended. Afterward, I helped establish a Christian outreach group at UCSB.
Despite my best efforts, the calling to tell people about the Lord didn’t seem to flourish as I had hoped many years ago. In my mind, I saw myself traveling the world. Since I have an affinity for languages, this seems like a logical course. Yet, it never seemed to go anywhere. In fact, my every effort to get away from Santa Barbara to spread the world amounted to nothing. In my eyes.
By the time I moved to Sacramento, California, in 2018, I hadn’t thought much more about the dream. My dream of carrying the Gospels to all nations was still there, but I never saw it happening. However, I remember the blog I only rarely posted on since its creation. Around that time, I started writing poetry again. While I read my Bible daily, it didn’t occur to me to tell anyone about it. To tell anyone about the things the Lord brought to mind.
Two years ago, on August 14, 2019, the Lord told me something after reading these verses from Jeremiah.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)
I have made you this tree. I have planted my word into you, and you will prosper. Your roots will spread to all nations.
And that same day, after that word, He brought this verse from Psalm 96 to my attention.
Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.
Psalm 96:10 (NIV)
In the short time that Four-Calendar Café has been active, it’s reached 93 of the 195 nations that make up the world. In the last year, since I’ve been sharing my daily devotions, the blog has reached 57 out of the 195 nations of the world. While this might not be a big deal to other bloggers, it is to me. Outside of this medium, I’d have been hard-pressed to have visited so many countries to tell people about the Lord in the last year.
I don’t know what the Lord has for me in the future. I still have the desire to travel and tell people about Jesus. However, I am delighted to be able to serve Him today, as I am, and to you, I thank you for stopping by on this glorious day the Lord has made.
Do you know God? God knows you, and he loves you. He sees you as significant because you are. No one is insignificant to Him. He’s with you today, and he wants you to know him. Jesus died for your sins and mine so we could be free of guilt, freed from death, and live eternally with him. Eternal salvation is just a prayer away.
Pray this prayer with me to accept the gift of salvation:
Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins. I repent from my ways. Wash me in your blood and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I believe that you died on the cross, were buried, and on the third day, God the Father raised you from the dead. Right now, Lord Jesus, I open the door to my heart and receive you into my heart as my Lord and personal Savior. Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, then congratulations! You are on the first step of a brand new life. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to my family, the family of God.
