Do Christians have to obey the 10 Commandments? Is salvation based on following rules or God’s grace and faith in Christ? If Christians don’t have to follow the 10 Commandments to be saved, why follow them? If you’ve wondered these things, then you’re not alone.
In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?” (emphasis added)
Deuteronomy 6:20 (NIV)
Fortunately, these Scriptures answer why we should do what the Lord tells us to do.
“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you” (emphasis added).
Deuteronomy 5:16 (NIV)
Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever! (emphasis added)
Deuteronomy 5:29 (NIV)
The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today (emphasis added).
Deuteronomy 6:24 (NIV)
The Lord wants us to obey him, not because he’s on a power trip but for our good. God knows what we need before we need it. If we run into issues in trying to live a holy and pleasing life for the Lord, he tells us how to handle that.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Mark 14:38 (NIV)
Do you know God? God knows you, and he loves you. He sees you as significant because you are. No one is insignificant to Him. He’s with you today, and he wants you to know him. Jesus died for your sins and mine so we could be free of guilt, freed from death, and live eternally with him. Eternal salvation is just a prayer away.
Pray this prayer with me to accept the gift of salvation:
Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins. I repent from my ways. Wash me in your blood and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I believe that you died on the cross, were buried, and on the third day, God the Father raised you from the dead. Right now, Lord Jesus, I open the door to my heart and receive you into my heart as my Lord and personal Savior. Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, then congratulations! You are on the first step of a brand new life. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to my family, the family of God. There are abundant resources available online for new Christians. You can visit here for more information on what to do next. You can also leave me a comment, and I’ll do my best to help you on the next step of this incredible journey.
Reading these verses brought back memories of me teaching my children about Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit. They also reminded me of my own life as a kid. I was a rebellious child even though I grew up in the church. Thank you for sharing, God bless you, Jason. Have a great weekend.
