Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

2 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)

It’s much easier to see fault in others while ignoring our imperfections. Instead of trying to find flaws in those who profess faith in Christ, we would be better off focusing on our walk with the Lord. Indeed, those who often point out “false” Believers might be surprised if they spent time examining themselves through the Lord’s eyes.

If I think that someone else isn’t a “true” Believer or start pointing out how they aren’t living up to their calling, I need to repent and ask the Lord to show me myself and help me be the man he called me to be.

Lord, I praise and magnify you today. I repent of those times when I doubted the sincerity of those who have called themselves Christian or thought others were failing their duties. Lord, I know I’m in no place to correct others if there’s a plank in my eye. Thank you for your grace and mercy. Please open my eyes to see, ears to hear, and heart to understand your pleasing and perfect will. Please show me where I might be failing you and help me be a better man. Thank you for doing this. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
