Is your life a mess? If you’re not a Christian, your life is a mess. You just might not see it yet. If you are a Christian, don’t think your life cannot become a mess. Especially if you take your eyes off Jesus.
Fortunately, God can clean up anyone’s mess and turn it into something extraordinary. Look at King David.
After David committed adultery with Bathsheba and then had her husband, Uriah the Hittite, murdered, the Lord blessed them with Solomon, who is still known the world over as the wisest king to have ever lived. If that’s not enough, consider when David decided he needed to know how many soldiers he had, so he sent out Joab to count the troops in Israel and Judah. What happened there? The Lord gave David three choices on how he wanted to be punished. After David chose a plague, 70,000 men in Israel died.
So the Lord sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.
1 Chronicles 21:14 (NIV)
When God an angel to destroy Jerusalem, the Lord relented and stopped the angel.
And God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem. But as the angel was doing so, the Lord saw it and relented concerning the disaster and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand.” The angel of the Lord was then standing at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
1 Chronicles 21:15 (NIV)
Pay attention to what happens next. David wanted to build an altar to the Lord on Araunah’s threshing floor, so he bought it from him.
So David paid Araunah six hundred shekels of gold for the site. David built an altar to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the Lord, and the Lord answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
1 Chronicles 21:25-26 (NIV)
After buying all of Araunah’s property, David makes a historic decision.
Then David said, “The house of the Lord God is to be here, and also the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
1 Chronicles 22:1 (NIV)
That’s right. On the very spot where the plague against Israel stopped, the Temple of the Lord was built!
Think about that. David sinned against the Lord, and 70,000 men lost their lives. If that’s not the definition of a mess, I don’t know what it is. Yet, through David’s actions, the Temple of the Lord was built that housed the Name of the Lord.
Now, think about your life. Before I was saved, my life was a mess. However, when I became a Christian, the Lord did the same thing that he did with the Temple. The Holy Spirit came to dwell within me forever.
Since I’ve been a Christian, I’ve gotten into a mess or two, but the Lord turned those situations into something beautiful. Just like he did with David when he sinned against him.
So, no matter how “messy” your life might be, God can clean it up. If you know him, then turn to him and ask him for help. God’s been waiting for you to ask, so ask. If you don’t yet know Jesus, then turn to him and ask him. He’s been waiting for you to ask! Just know that God knows you and loves you. God doesn’t want anyone to perish but for everyone to come to repentance so they can spend eternity with him. If you want to know God and be saved from your sins, then pray this prayer with me to accept the gift of salvation:
Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins. I sincerely repent from my ways. Wash me in your blood and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I believe you died on the cross and were buried, and God the Father raised you from the dead on the third day. Right now, Lord Jesus, I open the door to my heart and receive you into my heart as my Lord and personal Savior. Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, then congratulations! You are on the first step of a brand new life. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to my family, the family of God.
