The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven.

Nehemiah 2:4 (NIV)

There are many promises in the Bible. Of those many promises in the Bible, Matthew 6:33 and Proverbs 3:5-6 are two that are near and dear to my heart.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Sometimes things happen and we don’t have the opportunity to get down on our knees and ask God what He thinks while they’re happening. From conversations with co-workers, friends, neighbors, and strangers to driving and suddenly being in the middle of an accident. Sometimes, we may not have the time to get onto our knees and pray, but we can still ask God for help. We’ve all been blind-sided at least once in our life by something we didn’t see coming. How you might be thinking, can I be prepared in prayer?

In the last book of Jeremiah, we get an epilogue, if you will, of the events that occurred after Jeremiah’s last words in Jeremiah 51. There were a few verses that stuck out to me today so I’m going to share my thoughts on these with you.

Proverbs 9:10 (NIV)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Fearing the Lord is to have the reverence and awe that this is God. This is the One who made everything. Me, you, that cat over there. He made it all. Every star I see, every sound I hear. The taste of watermelon and smacking my lips. Love, beauty, hope, joy and peace, and every good thing. The sun shining so bright and the cool moon at night. He made it. The desires of my heart, the color green. So much so, I can’t name it all. But He knows. He knows my name. He wakes me up. He puts me to sleep. He paints my dreams, gives me life, and this, all that I see will pass away. For a better place. A real home. With no fear, no hate, or pain. Only love. His love, His home. My home. Waiting for me.

Knowing this, knowing just the tip of who He is, is just the beginning of wisdom.

When I have this knowledge, of how great, awesome, mighty, and loving this God is then I have some understanding. Understanding that I want to be like Him. And if I want to be like Him then I need to love like Him. How do I love like Him? I’m not perfect, I’m not holy, I’m easily angered, cranky, mean and so different than God. God made a way. He made a way for me to love like Him. To be with Him, now. Jesus is the way. If I accept Jesus, the Son of God, the One He sent to die for me and you and all the sins of the world, if I accept Him as my Lord, my savior, my King, and my God, then I will have a new life. I will be saved. I will go to Heaven. I will be able to love as He loves me.

Eternal salvation is just a prayer away. Pray this prayer with me to accept the gift of salvation today:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you prayed that prayer then congratulations! You are on the first step of a brand new life. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to my family, the family of God. fear begets anger,
uncertainty morphs perception
becoming certain, acting
on rage, blinded-
there is no light,
only grasping hands
clinging to spirits
wounded, afraid-
acting out.
